How is the Bellows Free Academy Junior Varsity girls’ volleyball team doing this year?

Volleyball coach Lauren Liberatore, who is coaching for her second year at BFA, said “We are currently three and one.”

According to Liberatore, there are a total of 14 players and one team manager, Sarah McElree (‘23). With Covid-19 being a big factor these days, there have been multiple changes to not only volleyball but many other sports as well.

“Outdoors [last year] was rough; it wasn’t necessarily ideal and [we] definitely did not have the energy we have now [that we can play inside],” Liberatore said.

Liberatore added that the junior varsity girls have played a total of four games, three of which were easy games and one that was very competitive against Essex, which they had been waiting for to see what they really had in them and put to use the skills that they had developed over many practices.

The girls were waiting all season for their game against Essex. “They were waiting for competition, so they could really see what they had, and they trained so hard for so long, and they played really, really well.  A lot of Essex parents congratulated us, and it was really awesome sportsmanship, and the girls are happy,” Liberatore said.

Through Covid-19 and dealing with changes to volleyball and other sports as well, the girls have pushed through it all and are happy to be back in the gym with some sort of normalcy.
