“Zodiac” Film Review
December 9, 2021
“Zodiac” is a 2007 film directed by David Fincher and written by James Vanderbilt. This film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Robert Graysmith, Robert Downey Jr. as Paul Avery and Mark Ruffalo as Dave Toschi.
Some other actors/actresses that are featured in this film include Chloe Sevigny as Melanie, John Carroll Lynch as Arthur Leigh Allen and Anthony Edwards as Inspector William Armstrong. The action in this film happens all over California, but mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This film is based on a true story; it follows the manhunt for the Zodiac Killer. Throughout the film, we see all the letters, cryptic messages and even bloodied pieces of cloth that the Zodiac sent to the newspaper company that the main character, Robert Graysmith, worked for. We follow Robert and his journey at attempting to track down the Zodiac Killer.
Our main character, Robert Graysmith, is an oddball during the whole movie; all of his colleagues call him names and look down on him simply because he is a cartoonist for the paper. But, as the movie progresses and the audience gets to know Robert a bit better, it’s visible that he is a very smart man who cares about people even if they don’t care much for him.
“Zodiac” definitely caught me by surprise at times and even made me laugh. The film keeps you hooked and makes you not want to look away for even a second. A part of the movie that made me feel this way was when the team of inspectors go through Arthur Leigh Allen’s trailer. They find three guns that the Zodiac had used and other really weird things that could lead to him being classified as the Zodiac.
The film was very well-done, and I enjoyed my time watching it. I like this film because I am a fan of crime TV shows and movies. The Zodiac case itself is very interesting, so having a movie with actors that are very good at what they do, made the film that much more captivating.
From beginning to end, it was hard to look away. Some parts of the movie can be a bit gruesome and dark, simply because it’s a movie based on a true story of a serial killer. But I 110% would recommend this film to people who are like me and enjoy crime shows/films or are fans of Jake Gyllenhaal. You can find“Zodiac” for free on Netflix with a subscription.
