This 2024 school year, BFA St. Albans students have experienced new changes to their schedule that they may or may not enjoy. For the longest time, BFA students have had class periods called enrichment and advisory. During those periods throughout the day, students are given the opportunity to get some work done or chat with their friends.
This school year, following a new guideline, study hall is required in place of enrichment on non block days. It is held with a mixed group of students, combining grade levels. Many students are finding it difficult to adjust to, though the period may become favorable throughout the year. The newly enforced study hall is a great opportunity to meet new people and interact with peers from all grade levels.
Students experiencing the new study hall were questioned, and most felt they were comfortable when advisory was daily. Most felt this change was unnecessary, and they don’t enjoy the new change in their schedule. However, as the year progresses, some students have changed their opinion toward study hall, and find it enjoyable.
This new change was introduced to bring grade levels together and create new relationships, though some students have found it difficult, and seem to not enjoy it. Time will tell how students’ feelings change as study hall becomes more normalized.
