Powder Puff is more than just a girls’ football game— it is an annual tradition at BFA that brings the community and students together to raise money for cancer patients. Every year, the team raises funds by encouraging friends and family to donate, selling raffle tickets, and collecting money from the match.
The money is donated to the Jim Bashaw Cancer & Catastrophic Illness Fund, which provides financial help to residents in the Franklin and Grand Isle Counties who are battling cancer. Additionally, the game also raises money for Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, which provides a safe environment for children who have been affected by cancer.
On the evening of Sept. 28th, BFA’s Powder Puff Comets team played against Missisquoi Valley Union High School and won 30-26. The bleachers were filled with students and family members who supported not only the students but also the fight against cancer.
“Being a part of the event was so much fun, especially seeing people show up for a good cause,” said Mackenzie Smith, one of the left defense players for the Comets team.
As this year’s game comes to an end, BFA will without doubt continue the tradition by raising more funds and bringing another great victory next year.
For those who missed the game but would still like to contribute to the cause, donations can be made online for Jim Bashaw or for Camp Ta-Kum-Ta at their websites.
