Students at BFA do not seem to be enjoying the new study hall system that has been implemented due to new school rules. The change that was made is that on normal block days students have been designated a different eacher to go to as a replacement for the enrichment block; it is called a study hall. It is a 20 minute block with mixed grades intended to give students more time to work 3 times a week.
Although there was not much talk about the change when it was first introduced, the amount of people talking about the new study hall has been increasing. The change did not seem that significant at first, BFA student Dior Brenes said,“I didn’t think anything of it.” On a larger scale, it seems that BFA students are not enjoying it.
I interviewed some students regarding their opinions on the new changes. Noah Folley, a BFA student, said that the new system is “A change that did not need to be made.” Other students, such as Cole Swan, and Andrew Telfer, also said they believed that the old schedule did not need to be changed, when I asked them if they thought it was necessary.
Considering the new system was implemented as a way for students to get more work done, it will be hard to know if the extra study hall made a difference until the end of the year when grades are final. For now, students will have to wait and see if the concerns with the new systems are just temporary, or if there is a bigger issue.
