Corey Kent’s Blacktop album is one of many albums that he has made, however this album contains his biggest hit, “Wild as Her”, which is what many people know him for. This is also his most popular album, but after his new release of the album Black Bandana, it has some big competition.
Corey Kent started singing and playing music when he was eleven years old, as the lead singer of a band. They would travel around his hometown and play music for different establishments. Later when he was twenty years old, he performed on The Voice and ended up placing 3rd in the competition. After that he continued to make music. Corey has opened and toured with other country artists like Parker McCollum, Cody Johnson, and Chase Rice.
In 2022 Kent had his first big hit with the song “Wild as Her” and later in 2023 he released his Blacktop album which contained the song “Wild as Her” as well and many other songs that he is also known for like “If Somethings Going to Kill me” and “Gone as you”. After these releases he was nominated for many awards like Break Through Male Video of the Year, People’s Country Choice Award for New Artist of 2023, AIMP Nashville Country for “Wild as Her” and also was put on the CMT Listen Up artist for 2023, Pandora Artist to watch, Opry Nextstage Class of 2023 Sirius XM Class of 2022. As well as “Wild As Her” went viral on many streaming platforms and became a platinum hit. His song “If Somethings Going To Kill Me” was named one of the best country songs of the year by Rolling Stones.
Throughout the album Kent has an overall theme of hard work, family, and following your dreams. He did this because he wanted to write about his own family, career, and he wanted to write about the people in the pavement industry that helped and supported him along the way as that was his job before he was able to produce music full time. This is where he got the title for the album.
Kent is a singer, songwriter, and mixes classic country music with his own country twist to it. He has been in the country music space for a long time and may not be the most famous but his career has had a steady incline and I would give his album a 4 out of 5 stars.
