Mr. Sweet, also known as “Little Mr. Sweet”, works as a Skill building teacher at BFA. He always has a funny story to tell and he’s always in good spirits. I’ve had Mr. Sweet for all of the 3 years he’s been here. I’ve seen growth in him as a person and as a teacher. For the three years he’s been here, he’s always had the same routine. His students walk in, sit in their assigned seats, and are handed a purple folder with their name on it. Mr. Sweet’s goal for his class is to help students who may not be caught up with their work or may be struggling in some subjects and need extra help.
Mr. Sweet has a way with kids. Teenagers are typically difficult to manage, but he handles them really well. “My first year was hard and challenging, but I had Karla (his co-worker) by my side,” said Mr. Sweet, “I was not happy, but I tried to be. Karla helped me realize the positive,”. He also said: “Weekends away from students are amazing”, but he believes that making a connection with students is important. “Connecting with students and knowing their interest is important” he said. A student asked him to watch them play at their game, and Mr.Sweet went because it was important to him that he had a good connection with the students at BFA. He also says that when students sign up for his enrichment, having people there brings him joy. He’s glad that the students feel comfortable with him and want to be there.
As a student of Mr. Sweet’s, I’d like to say that he’s an amazing teacher filled with joy. He’s always willing to listen and to help as much as he can. Mr. Sweet has helped me through some tough times that I was going through. He knows how to be a teacher, but he can also be a friend. He can be someone you can talk to, but serious when he needs to be. Mr. Sweet has never failed to put a smile on my face even on my worst days. I’d say me and Mr. Sweet have a good connection. Thank you Mr. Sweet for always being kind to your students.
