The BFA St. Albans dance team moved up to New Englands recently after placing third in the States competition. The BFA dance team is an after school extracurricular activity where students connect and have fun.
In order to get more insight on the team from it’s members, an interview was conducted. Information was gathered from the dance team’s coach, and two students who are members of the team, Emily Ackel and Jayden Lancto-Jackson.
“A few places we’ve gone to to compete are Lamoille, South Burlington, and Mount Mansfield.” Emily Ackel said. There were way more competitions, but she wanted to keep it simple. Similar things were said by the dance coach, Colleen McHugh, and Jayden.
“Dance Team this year started at the end of October, and is now coming to an end after New Englands. I’m nervous and excited,” Said Jayden Lancto-Jackson. It’s not a long lasting sport, but it is thrilling.
Additionally, Colleen had similar things to say about the team. She has been enjoying coaching the team, and “nobody judges, it’s a judgment free zone,” she said.
Overall, the dance team is preforming well, and the environment is positive. Not only do they compete, but they also gain friendships. There are two placements, JV and Varsity, but there is no shame in whichever team one is assigned to. The other students help teach new things, and the coach does too. Food is provided for competing, which is a big motivator. So, if joining the BFA dance team sound interesting, there are many benefits to joining.
