When you walk into the restaurant, you see polished tables and different kinds of people-short, and tall. You also see a classy bar. The Drake looks like a comforting lodge. The outside has glowy, beautiful string lights, chairs that you can sink into, and windows that are big and crystal clear. The theme of the restaurant is reminiscent of a feathery bird, hence why it is called The Drake. There are quite a few duck statues, but it’s not really weird. It’s more unique and different, which makes you want to eat and chat there with your families, friends, or partners. The attire is casual and laid back; There are no crazy expectations for a dress code.
You are greeted immediately by kind workers. Sometimes it can take a minute to get seated, but it’s a smaller restaurant, so you won’t be standing for 30 minutes waiting to be seated. The service is good, they’re patient with you and friendly, the refills are swift, and servers are attentive. The food on the menu is comfort foods, such as melty poutine, crispy fries, mouthwatering tacos, and godlike desserts. The food is more American than anything else. As for portions, the price is pretty reasonable for a big platter of poutine which is around $15. The best meal at the restaurant in my opinion would be the butternut squash poutine. It was a special I had, and the fries were crispy to perfection, the orange sauce was the right amount of creamy and the taste is not an overwhelming vegetable flavor, and the cheese is stringy and melts in your mouth. I would recommend the Shirley Temple as the cherries are refreshing.
I’d rate The Drake 5/5 stars. This restaurant is the best for its type of food I’ve been to so far. It’s simple, comforting, not overwhelming, the service is great, and you’re invited, not excluded. You can come here for a countless amount of things, just because, hangouts, dates-it does not matter, and that’s a good part about it. This restaurant is definitely worth giving a try if you haven’t been there already.
