The Act of Obliviousness by Maddie Curtis (’21)

Maddie Curtis, Contributor

The woman in the sky

is falling.

The people on the airplane

can see her.

They don’t try to call out.

They assume it’s a lost cause.

The man in the coffee shop

is choking.

Nobody notices.

He tries to call out,

but his words

join the mess in his throat.

The man at the fair

is screaming.

People assume

it’s because of excitement.

Nobody realizes

that he stops.
