Call Me by Your Name was directed by Luca Guadagnina and produced by James Ivory. The movie stars Timothee Chalamet as Elio, a 17-year old protagonist. He is intelligent, bilingual, well-read and a talented musician who makes and re-writes music. He is also secretly gay and has a love triangle between Oliver and a mystery girl.

Armie Hammer plays Oliver, a 24-year old who is an intern for Elio’s father. Oliver travels to Italy for six weeks to stay with Elio’s family and finish his book course. Within the six weeks, he finds himself falling in love with Elio, which becomes an entanglement with other women.

Micheal Stuhlbarg plays Mr. Pearlman, Elio’s father, who invites Oliver to intern for him so he can finish his book course. Within the summer, he sees how close Elio and Oliver have become, so he then gives a speech to Elio about love and men. Esther Garrel plays Marzia, also known as “Mystery Girl,” a young girl who finds herself desperate for Elio. Marzia senses that Elio will hurt her because, even though she knows his true love is for Oliver, she still finds herself in love with Elio.

The film takes place during the summer of 1983 in Lombardy, Italy.   Throughout the summer of swimming in ponds, eating peaches, scripting music, and having love affairs with many girls, Elio and Oliver find themselves with a deep, romantic connection that will change their lives forever.

Overall, I enjoyed this film because I adored watching the connection of love grow throughout the whole film. It’s the feeling of hidden love and tension between not just Oliver and Elio, but also Elio and Marzia.

I believe the director’s style of the film is acceptable for some. It’s very sexual with many scenes that are rated R. With a mature audience, I believe that the film is so interesting, not just because of the plot but also the setting.  It’s placed on a beautiful island that has an old-fashioned city style.  The movie brings drama, nature, true love and friendship.

Call Me by Your Name is streamed on many platforms like Hulu, YouTube, Starz, etc.
