Until Nov. 21 at Bellows Free Academy, a clothing sale is taking place through the Student Council. The BFA attire represents 2021-2022’s newest logo, one created by Marshall Herbert (‘22).

According to MaryEllen Tourville, a BFA English teacher and the school’s Student Council Advisor, the clothing sale begins with a contest that encourages BFA students of all years to design and create a logo that accurately represents the school. For example, the logo should support BFA and help build school spirit. Typically, the contest opens several weeks before homecoming.  The clothing sale has been an annual occurrence for five years now. The contest is organized by Tourville.

“This year we had three submissions, but only two met the requirements,” Tourville said.

The contest ran from Sept. 15-29. Each logo that is submitted, according to the Logo Design Contest Rules, “must be the original work of the entrant and must not include, be based on, or derived from any pre-existing or third-party designs, trademarks, or copyrighted images.”

The student-submitted logos were included in the Homecoming ballot for spirit leader, which allowed the whole student body to vote on their favorite design. After a design is picked by the student body, the winner receives the first t-shirt with their printed logo as their prize, and the clothing sale will feature apparel with that logo.

This year’s winner, Herbert (‘22), designed a logo that both represents BFA and shows school spirit.

“BFA [was my inspiration], I was just designing in my book… I thought I would go simple… I really wanted to win,” Herbert (‘22) said.

To purchase BFA attire with Herbert’s (‘22) logo, order from Main Street Graphics BFA Student Council 2021-2022. The deadline for the sale is Nov. 21, 11:59 p.m. est.
