On Feb.13, the biggest sporting event in the U.S. will be taking place.  The Bengals will be battling it out against the Rams, a matchup that wasn’t suspected.

Every year the Super Bowl brings in the most attention in the sports world in America.  According to statista.com, “In Super Bowl 54 the game brought in a little over 100 million viewers.” It doesn’t matter what your favorite team is, if you are an American, or you are familiar with American football, there’s a good chance you will be tuning into the “Big Game.”

The Super Bowl brings in a wide variety of fans whether it’s for the halftime show, the commercials or because they just love watching the game.

The Mercury asked Bellows Free Academy students what their thoughts were on the upcoming Super Bowl through a survey. Sixty-five percent out of the 96 students who completed the survey are certain they will be tuning into the game.  A little over seventeen percent said that they are still unsure and a little over 16% said that they were not going to be watching the game.

The Mercury also asked the student body who they thought would win, or who they wanted to win, and the majority of the responses said that they didn’t care who won.  Twenty-two percent of respondents said they want the Rams to win, and 34% said they want the Bengals to win.

The Los Angeles Rams are the favorite to win in Sunday’s game, but the Bengals have been the underdog story so far in this year’s playoffs. As their superstar quarterback, Joe Burrow has been leading the way for them. After finishing last year’s season 4-11-1, the Bengals have surpassed all expectations so far this season. In the AFC title game, the Bengals rallied from down by 18 points to come back and stun the Chiefs with Evan McPherson’s game-winning field goal. According to si.com, “The Rams, however, were a betting favorite at the start of the season, with preseason odds at 12-1” After acquiring Matt Stafford from the Lions in the offseason,. Finishing 12-5-0,they have been a dominant force all season.

As most people that don’t have a dog in the fight are hoping for a close game,.  Iit should shape up to be a good duel of the league’s top quarterbacks.
