Do you ever stop and think about all the things your mother has done and brought into your life for you but struggle to show appreciation? I hope this Mother’s Day weekend was the perfect time to show your mom how much you truly recognize and cherish what they do for you!

May 8 was the national celebration for all mothers of the world. Here at Bellows Free Academy, The Mercury sent out a survey to gather information regarding the love our students have for their moms. Out of the data collected, 75% of the 48 students who responded to the survey planned on spending the day with their mothers this past Sunday, and 12.5% of them planned on going out to a brunch, which is a very traditional celebration for this holiday. While not everyone planned on attending brunch with their mom, students who responded to the survey said that they planned to surprise their mom with a flower, card, chocolate or other form of appreciation.

One student shared one of their most memorable memories with their mother.  The student, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “Some of the best times I have had is when we are just walking with each other. We talk about whatever comes to mind, and it is a peaceful place in time where we can forget the rest of life’s worries. Those are rare in life. Sharing that time with another makes it even better.”

To all the mothers, I want you to know we understand the weight of motherhood is more than any of us kids understand, and we all should take some time to appreciate every single one of you for all you have done for the children of our community. We must thank you for the rides to sports and activities, the food for our growing bodies, the pillow underneath our tired heads, the constant-listening ears, warm hugs, outrageous support and much more. As we grow older and become more independent, you all will always be our foundation of lives.

As a student from Bellows Free Academy, I would personally like to thank my mother and all the effort she has put into making me the young woman I am today. One of the things I cherish the most with my mother is the times we go and watch sunrise and sunsets. In such a beautiful time, I get to be with someone who means the world to me, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Now that Mother’s Day has passed, and hopefully all the mothers had a wonderful day with their families and children, I hope you feel the love of being a mother every day. You all should be beyond proud of yourselves.  Happiest of Mother’s Day to all the beautiful moms!
