Charon’s in the Distance

I believe

I’ve watched the human heart

Shrivel in front of my eyes,

Life draining from

The limp red rose that

Laid coldly in dim light.

I believe

I’ve witnessed the moment

A baby becomes a child,

From babbling sounds

To complex sentences

And suddenly walking towards a diploma.

I believe

I’ve stood by while

Someone else’s time is wasted

Alone,

And unfortunately, I did nothing

To help.

I believe

I’ve watched love

Flow back into a cold heart,

Making it warm,

Thus making her more alive

And I believe

I’ve witnessed life,

I’ve witnessed death,

I’ve seen heartbreak,

I’ve seen marriage,

And I’ve seen the moments

That everyone lives for.

Because of this,

I live on.
