The BFA Scholar’s Bowl Team had its first competition of the school year on November 12. They hosted the Franklin Regional Tournament after school. Three schools attended: CVU, BFA St. Albans, and BFA Fairfax. With three sections of teams, A, B, and C, BFA ended up in second place with four out of five wins. Coming in first place was CVU’s A team with five out of five wins.
Meeting every Thursday after school with additional sessions during enrichment, Scholar’s Bowl is a lively club with students from every grade. BFA’s two coaches, social studies teacher Chris Moore, and English teacher Nate Archambault have been running the club for ten years. Scholar’s Bowl is similar to Jeopardy, with quiz-based competitions that test players on various academic subjects. With questions ranging from ancient philosophers to current football players, students can expect any topic. BFA competes with schools from around the state and often travels for competitions.
BFA’s team also had their second competition, the Pre-Holiday Academic Tournament on December 6 at Essex High School. 14 schools participated, with some teams coming from out of state. Coming in first place was Hanover High School from New Hampshire, with seven out of seven wins. BFA’s A team came in 10th place.
BFA also competed in the Power-balanced Jamboree at Rice High School on January 10th.
