The BFA Comets defeat Burr & Burton 8-0 while the Bobwhites get bested 6-4 against Harwood on Saturday night at Collins-Perley. Rylee LaRocque (#10) gets her first goal for the Comets, and Dahlia Steele (#30) saves seven for a shutout.
The Comets, whose record this season stood at 11-1-2 (as of Feb. 7, 2026), played exceptionally well, limiting their opponents’ shots on goal and keeping the puck out of their zone much of the game. It’s safe to say Steele didn’t see much action, courtesy of a fantastic offensive performance, but when she did, she ended it quickly and effectively.
“Sometimes being the best means also changing,” says Comet goalie Anna Hibbard (#31). “Our shooting’s gotten a lot better this year.”
She isn’t wrong, as last year’s GPG (goals per game) was around 2.8, with this year being closer to 4.6 midway through this season. This one game alone boosted the average by 0.2–more than you would typically expect on a regular basis. But that’s exactly what they do. Take the next game, for example: a 9-1 win against Kingdom Blades pushed them up another 0.3. Keep adding results like these, and that’s why they’re the #1 team in the state.
With only a few games remaining, the Comets are on pace to end the season around 4.8 goals per game. Nearly two full goals more than the last season’s average.
Near the end of the second period, the score 5-0, Comet Marley Johnson (#15) collides with Bulldog Shelly Clark (#6) fighting for the puck. Clark slid into the boards face-first and remained down for about two-and-a-half minutes before getting back to the bench. Luckily, this would be the only major incident of the night.
The Bobwhites had quite an interesting game with ten goals scored–six going against them–bringing their season record to 6-7-1. The first 2/3 of the game were rather uneventful, leading into the third period tied at two. Six goals were scored in the third alone, with one being the game-ending empty netter by Eli Herrington (#17) of the Highlanders.
The night closed with 12 goals bagged for BFA and 6 for opponents, with the Highlanders being the only scorers.
