The BFA Dance Team went to South Burlington High School for one last competition this Saturday. This was JV’s final competition for the public to view for the season. After the competition was finished, Varsity started preparing to travel to Vergennes for States and Massachusetts for New Englands.
The BFA dance team has had a cold season, traveling on some of the most frigid days of the year. They have participated in many competitions and were ready for one last competition with the whole team. BFA’s coach, Colleen McHugh, said, “Both teams have grown a lot. Jv has grown in their musicality and their confidence.” McHugh felt that as JV traveled to South Burlington High School, they were bringing their love for dance with them.
Elizabeth Botting and Kyla Abair are two seniors on the BFA Dance Team who were sad but ready to conclude the competition season.
Abair was the JV’s team captain and has been on the team for 2 years. She was nervous about joining the team last year, but she is glad she did, as it helped her meet new people. As Abair stepped out onto that competition floor for the last time, she had all of those friends in mind and stated, “ It feels weird because I’m happy to be dancing with all my friends, and then I realize that this will be the last time I’m dancing with some of them.”
She felt that this year had brought new challenges due to her new role as captain, but she was glad she had been given the opportunity to work on her leadership skills. Giving great advice to underclassmen, such as “…show up as much as possible and do (your) part.”
Botting was the Varsity team captain and has been a member of the team for three years. She felt this year was different due to the close bond the team had compared to previous years. She is hopeful that the Varsity team will achieve its goal of going to New Englands. Botting stated, “To go to New Englands means we (can) represent our state and our school. It shows that the work we put in has paid off.”
The BFA Dance Team had a great season and is ready for what the future holds.
