Super Bowl LX happened on February 8th at Levi’s Stadium with the Seahawks defeating the Patriots, 29-13. Bad Bunny performed for the halftime show, featuring Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga.
The game was an expected loss for the Patriots, but nonetheless disappointing for New England fans. Many students and staff at Bellows Free Academy are Patriots fans because they live in New England, but there are still some Seahawks fans within the school. Overall, sports continue to be a prevalent topic at BFA.
Teachers were seen wearing football jerseys on the Friday before the Super Bowl to show support for their teams. Ms. Schubert, a math teacher from Seattle, even sent an email out to all teachers, saying, “GOOOOOOOOOO SEAHAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Mr. Sargent, a Patriots fan and Special Education Teacher for the Community Integration Program, replied to the email, saying, “LET’S GET#7! GO PATRIOTS!” Other teachers have sent emails similar to this during other sports championships.
Mr. Moore, a social studies teacher, was rooting for the Patriots and was one of the teachers wearing Super Bowl attire on Friday. Although the Patriots didn’t win, he and other teachers were happy that the Patriots got to the Super Bowl in the first place, as it was unexpected for them to get into the championship this year.
On the other hand, Mr. Sturgeon, another math teacher, was rooting for the Seahawks. He enjoyed watching the game with his family and mentioned how he wished the game were more offensive. “I didn’t think it was the cleanest game. It was a little sloppy by both teams.”
Bad Bunny’s halftime show has had mixed reactions across the nation because he sang entirely in Spanish. The show was meant to bring Puerto Rican culture to an American Football game. Many teachers have said Bad Bunny’s show was appealing, but they wish they could’ve understood what he was singing about. Overall, the halftime show seemed to have a good reception among teachers.
