Leah Jamison, an 18-year-old from St. Albans, Vermont, is currently part of a competition to be crowned America’s Favorite Student. The prize offered is $20,000, a trip to the Planetary Society with a tour from Bill Nye, and a two-page spread in Reader’s Digest.
For Leah, this contest isn’t about the money, but rather about the opportunity to meet Bill Nye! Since Leah was a little girl, she has watched Bill Nye the Science Guy; it was her favorite show. She loved to learn from him about all varieties of science, and she believes that his show is where her love of science began.
Throughout her life, Leah has dressed as Bill Nye for Halloween, asked for a mini periodic table to match him, and has recently been rewatching his show for motivation as she learns college-level physics. Now, almost a decade later, Leah plans to major in mechanical engineering to continue her passion for science. One of her few bucket list goals would be to meet Bill Nye, who inspired her future career path.
Along with her love of Bill Nye, Leah has been a curious and enthusiastic student who loves to learn and is eager to help others. Please help her achieve her goal and vote daily at this website: https://americasfavstudent.org/2026/leah-2
Let’s represent Vermont proudly by having a local student be nationally recognized!
