In many communities, there are people whose kindness quietly shapes the lives around them. For family, friends, and neighbors who know her, Cheryl Hruby is one of those people.
Whether she’s standing on the sidelines at her grandkids’ soccer games, cheering at a track meet, or helping organize charitable gifts for children around the world, Cheryl brings the same warmth and energy wherever she goes. Her life revolves around two things she holds closest: family and giving back.
If you attend a sporting event where Cheryl’s grandchildren are competing, chances are you’ll spot her in the stands. She’s the one cheering loudly, celebrating every effort, and making sure her grandkids know how proud she is.
For Cheryl, being present matters. Her grandchildren know they can count on her to be there, not just for the big moments, but for the everyday ones too. Those small acts of support are what she believes build strong bonds with her family. Highlighting her priorities, Cheryl often says, “My Family, Pets and my pictures of family and Pets are the most important things to me,” which truly encapsulates her values.
Cheryl also has a creative side. She enjoys making small handmade gifts— colorful headbands, jewelry, and other thoughtful crafts. These creations aren’t just hobbies; they’re part of something bigger.
Many of the items she makes are placed into boxes for the program Operation Christmas Child, an international charity program that delivers gift-filled boxes to children in need around the world. “Making up Christmas boxes is a delight,” she says, “I can imagine a child’s face light up when they open their gift. Most of these children have nothing and appreciate everything they get. I want them to feel love and someone cares.” The handmade gifts add something special; a reminder to a child far away that someone cared enough to create something just for them.
Cheryl doesn’t just donate to the program; she dedicates her time as well. She regularly volunteers, helping prepare and organize the boxes and the gifts that will eventually travel around the world to children in need. She is a member of “The Place of Refreshing”, a home fellowship group where she finds support and a sense of community.
Even more meaningful, she often brings her grandchildren along to help. For her, volunteering is not just about helping others; it’s about teaching the next generation the value of compassion, generosity, and service, reminding them to “Do your best” and “Be sensitive to the needs of others.” She emphasizes the importance of “Integrity” in all aspects of life.
People that know Cheryl describe her as someone who naturally lifts the mood of any room she walks into. She’s thoughtful, warm, and always ready to help people. Her positive attitude isn’t loud or attention-seeking. Instead, it shows up in everyday ways — a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or simply showing up.
For Cheryl Hruby, giving back isn’t a special event or occasional activity, it’s simply how she lives her life.
Between supporting her grandchildren, volunteering, and creating gifts for children she may never meet, she reminds those around her that kindness can travel far beyond our immediate circles.
And for the many people whose lives she touches, especially her family, Cheryl’s great gift may be the example that she sets every day: that a life filled with kindness, generosity, and positivity can make a long-lasting impact.
